CRIB RECALL LIST
Each year, millions of cribs are recalled due to safety hazards. Recent cases of
crib-related strangulation, suffocation and serious injury have led to a call for
more stringent crib safety guidelines. Although federal regulations now prevent
the sale of the most commonly defective crib styles, manufacturing errors and older
model cribs continue to raise safety concerns. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety
Commission reports that more than 11 million cribs were recalled between 2007 and
2011. Faulty baby beds are continuously added to the Crib Recall List.
2011 Crib Recall List
Over a million cribs were recalled in 2011 alone. Some of the major crib recalls
are listed below:
One of the most common reasons for recall was defective drop-side rails or drop-side
rail hardware on the cribs. This issue causes the side rail of the crib to become
loose, creating an opportunity for infants and toddlers to become wedged between
the rail and mattress. Entrapment of children in this manner has been known to cause
death by suffocation and strangulation. Other grounds for additions to the Crib
Recall List included faulty crib mattress support hardware and co-sleeper attachment
hardware, which can cause a risk of falling, strangulation or suffocation.

What To Do If Your Crib Is Recalled
Consumers who have purchased products that are on the Crib Recall List are instructed
to proceed depending on the individual manufacturer recommendations. Sometimes it
is possible to request a safety repair kit in order to correct the problem. Other
times the defect is not repairable and an entirely new replacement product is necessary.
